Today we remember our church family that have gone to be with Jesus and we celebrate the family who has come home to worship with us. We had severe weather overnight and prepared to have lunch inside. But as we entered the church, the sun came out and there was a light breeze.
The morning started with the Memorial Association sharing the status of the accounts that are used to maintain the cemetery. Our church was full of regular church attendees, family and friends. Jason was a little concerned to let us do our usual Passing of the Peace for fear we would never be able to get back to worship. Our church was adorned with spring flowers from the Memorial Association.
The choir sang an upbeat song, Daddy Sang Bass and the key part of the song was that the circle won’t be broken.
Our speaker for the day was Rev. Jerry Johnson, from Crestview Wesleyan in Asheboro, and son of Hannah. He shared stories about growing up in Sapling Ridge church and the memories of learning about Jesus. He challenged us to speak about the most intolerable word that might be used in the church…Change. We need to stay Biblically anchored but we need to change to meet the needs of the world around us. What is Jesus calling us to do?
After Worship, we journeyed to the Fellowship Hall and the tables were laden with great food. No one could have gone home hungry. We are blessed to be able to share fellowship and food together. Some ate outside in the pavilion since the weather ended up being sunny and nice.
So, while we come together to remember our family members who have left us, we are thankful for the family and friends who gather around table to remember the blessings that Jesus has given us.
