Greetings from the Annual Conference of the NC Global Methodist Church, held in Winston-Salem. This is my first time attending a GMC Annual Conference. And I can assure you the differences from our former denomination’s Annual Conferences is huge. There is so much focus on God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, on Scriptural Holiness and Living in Grace. The theme is SENT. And we are all commissioned and we need to respond to the call and be SENT.
The short business session involved some changes to the Proposed Conference Rules for the NC GMC Annual Conference. In our current denomination, the laity are given as much importance as clergy. Our lanyards are the same color. Our numbers at Conference are equal and equitable. The changes just continued to focus on the collaborative ministry of clergy and laity.
We have worshiped and we have had communion. We heard from Bishop Greenway as he leaves his role as Bishop and returns to local church leadership. We also heard from Rev. Tom Mabry, who is the NC GMC candidate for Bishop. Those candidates will be elected in late August at General Conference being held in Johannesburg, South Africa. And we heard from Bishop Carolyn Moore. Bishop Moore did the evening worship and talked about the Holy Spirit falling on us. The message, the music and the evening was one of joy and excitement.
The evening session also included a thank you to Rev David Banks, the first NC GMC Superintendent. He is stepping down and the Conference team honored him and his faithfulness in bringing the NC GMC from a provisional group to one that is organized and fruitful.
More to come on day 2.
